ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Bill Polley of Ideal Kennels is classified as being the most outstanding Australian Dog Judge and the longest serving member of all Dog Controlling bodies in NSW and Australia.

Bill showed his first Fox Terrier for his Father at a Dog show in Parramatta In September 1924. He bred his first litter of Fox Terriers in 1927, one dog from the litter named "Jester Boy" became the first of 60 Champions that he bred in his lifetime.

Bill joined the Fox Terrier Club in 1927 where he went on and passed the Judge's Examination for Fox Terriers. He then went on to Judge a show at Ryde District Kennel Club with an entry of 58 Fox Terriers, he was just 15 years old at the time.

Bill bred some 300 dogs of which 60 became champions one which was Grand Champion "Jerry Ideal" whose show record has never been equalled or beaten by any breed in Australia since.

Bill became an All Breeds Judge in 1937 to 1947 when he then retired from Judging all Breeds to Speciality Judging All Terriers only. He judged all over Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. Bill was President and Chairman of the Fox Terrier Club of NSW for 20 years He was made an Honorary Life Member. Bill was a Steward at the Royal Easter Show for 18 years and Judged the Terrier Group at the Royal Easter Show in 1965. American Judge Mr. Percy Roberts was also appointed Judge the same year. Bill was a Panel Member of 4 Committees of the RAS Kennel Club of NSW from its inception and was made an Honorary Life Member, which has now been re named and called the Royal Canine Council of NSW. He resigned from the Canine Council Judging Panel in 1990.

Bill was instrumental in creating the Lectures for the Judges Training Classes and Examinations for candidates to become All Breeds Judges. These Lectures are still being used to-day as part of the Royal Canine Council of NSW.

Bill retired from Judging in 1990 when he was 77 years old.

Bill wrote the history of all the dog controlling bodies of NSW from 1838, when it first formed, including many articles written for overseas magazines as well as a hardcover handbook called "The Fox Terrier" covering all aspects of the Standard of the Breed. This book is still available to day.
Bill died on 12th May 2002 and with him went a wealth of knowledge, he spent 61 years judging and serving the community in the Dog World. This remarkable achievement makes Bill Polley one of the cornerstones of the Australian Dog World History and an absolute stalwart in the Community
The late William (Bill) Polley OAM was awarded the Order of Australia Medal on Australia Day 2003 posthumous for Service to Canine Breeding and Showing through the Royal Canine Council of NSW and The Fox Terrier Club of NSW.
